Organists at the Main Churches of the “Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg” between 1570 – 1740

The Seventeenth Century was a prolific time for the development of the organ at the Imperial City of Hamburg. The synergy created by the best and most innovative organ builders – such as Scherer, Stellwagen, Fritsche, Schnitger – and the best organists of the time, along with generous financial support from the wealthy merchant class, made possible the development of one of the greatest organ traditions in the history of the organ: The North German Organ School. I compiled a helpful graphic tenure timeline of organists who served at the main churches of Hamburg at the time. Free to download, use and share.
